Regions of Ruin is a 2D side-scrolling RPG with town-building where you are introduced to an open world that progressively challenges your hero and settlement the further you delve into the vast continent. You will discover a foreboding land ravaged by hundreds of years of hardship. Where, kingdoms have risen and fallen, settlements have been laid to waste and overrun by warring groups, and great mysteries lay hidden and waiting to be unearthed – assuming you can defeat their jealous guardians. This is a 2D sidescroller RPG with light settlement management elements, you explore points on a world map that each represent a quasi dungeon that you explore, loot and defeat enemies in, once they are all gone you can send your workers from your capital into the dungeons to harvest resources. You can use these resources to level up buildings and craft various items and equipment which in turn make you stronger to go into more difficult dungeons. The first hour of this game is kinda rough, combat can feel a bit sluggish and clunky, however once you geared and leveld up the game becomes actualy realy fun dispite its clunkyness, the combat system has some depth and offers light and heavy attacks, shield bracing, bashing and dodging however most of the depth falls appart in large skirmishes and some questionably designed enemies where, in the end, only raw attack power matters.
